I knew I had to do a burger joint at some point for my food blog, and when I heard Grub Burger Bar was opening up the street from me I thought it would be the perfect place for me to do my next blog. This is the second location in Georgia, the first being in Cobb County. I gathered up a group of friends and we went the second night after opening, and it was super busy! ATMOSPHERE: The atmosphere in Grub Burger Bar is by far my favorite so far from my blog series. Everything being brand new might have a little to do with it! There was a large square bar in the middle of the restaurant making it the highlight point for everyone to gather. The sleek wooden tables and stainless steel finishes gave the restaurant a sophisticated sleek feel. The highlights of orange and red from the accent colors and lighting gave Grub Burger Bar a warm and inviting feeling. We sat at a high table top and it was very comfortable. There was even a metal bar for you to rest your feet on which I loved! The restaurant was extremely well laid out which accommodated the heavy flow of patrons and avoided any back up. I really enjoyed the aura in this spot!

SERVICE: When we walked in we were immediately greeted by a hostess who handed us menus and explained how the process of ordering works. I spoke with the market partner, Curt Steinlage, to make sure it was okay for me to take pictures throughout the night. I told him about my food blog and he was very excited! He even offered to let me sample a few complimentary burgers off the menu! The staff at the registers were extremely friendly and upbeat. They answered all of my questions and were very knowledgeable about the menu. The food took about 20 minutes to get to our table, which is not bad at all for being as busy as they were (again, this was only their second night open). Staff checked on us throughout the service and brought us everything we needed and made sure all garbage was cleared in a timely manner. One thing that stood out to me was the passion of the staff. You could tell they really enjoyed their job and were having fun. All of them had an amazingly positive attitude and were constantly smiling. The service was impeccable.

FOOD: This is going to be a pretty long entry since I was able to sample several different burgers, a milkshake, and cheese fries (don’t judge me, my inner fat girl definitely came out that night!) The burgers are ground in house every morning from a blend of chuck and brisket, and the buns are baked fresh every hour! This menu is so diverse and offers up so much more than the typical burger and fries including crawfish pistolettes, chicken tenders, tabbouleh, salads, and much more. They also have so many unique burgers such as the Thai Peanut, Hippie Chickpea, and Swimmin’ Up Stream. I challenge you to broaden your horizon and order something a bit different from the usual! First let’s start with my milkshake since it came out first. I ordered the Nutella milkshake and man… it was even better than I expected it to be! It was thick, creamy, and full of rich chocolatey Nutella flavor. It wasn’t too light, and wasn’t too heavy… it was just what I needed to hold me over until my burgers and fries came out. The whip cream didn’t hurt either! By the way, Grub Burger Bar has a full bar which means you can add a little something special to every milkshake turning it into an adult version ;).

The first burger I tried was the Guacapotle burger, because duh, everyone knows my love for guacamole is something serious. This burger is an all-beef patty which is ground in house daily, topped with cheddar cheese, guacamole, and a chipotle aioli. Since you can customize any burger to your exact liking, I decided to add an over-easy egg to mine. Now let me say, the pictures do not do this burger justice. Yes it was very messy, but boy was it good! The beef was well seasoned and cooked perfectly with a slightly pink inside. The guacamole was fresh and extremely flavorful, and the chipotle aioli gave it a little spicy kick that just brought everything together. The bun was light, fluffy, buttery, and toasted to perfection. I would definitely recommend this burger to anyone that likes guacamole!

The Guacapotle burger was messy but so worth it!

The second burger brought out was chosen by the manager for me to try. He told me their Jive Turkey burger is the best burger on the menu. I was skeptical because to me, a turkey burger is the healthy, boring version of a beef burger. It usually is dry and lacks flavor. But the Jive Turkey burger was the exact opposite of that. The turkey burger, seasoned with pesto and topped with bacon, Swiss cheese, sprouts, avocado, and chipotle aioli was a flavor kick in my mouth. The pesto seasoning made the turkey extremely flavorful, and the patty itself was so juicy and moist! The bacon gave the burger a hint of saltiness, which was balanced out by the creaminess of the avocado. If you are looking for something a bit different from your normal burger but still want something that will feed your indulgence craving, you need to try the Jive Turkey burger!

Next, came the Burger of the Sea, also chosen by the manager. This burger is made of ahi tuna steak, topped with sprouts, arugula, pickled ginger, and wasabi-teriyaki dressing. The ahi tuna was seared on the outside and cooked to a medium rare which is really the only proper way to eat tuna. I enjoyed how you could see actual chunks of tuna and could identify what you were eating rather than a completely ground up consistency. The pickled ginger gave the burger an acidic powerful punch cutting through the tuna which I loved! There was a bit too much wasabi-teriyaki dressing on the burger for my liking. I am not really a big fan of teriyaki to begin with, but that is a personal preference. Overall this burger was extremely flavorful and refreshing. I suggest it for someone looking for something on the lighter side.

The last thing I ordered was the cheese fries. You could tell these were real fries when you bit into them, most likely cut just hours before ordering. They were crisp and hot on the inside. You got a large serving size as you can see! My only complaint is that when the cheese cooled off it was extremely difficult to eat. It formed into one big fry-cheese clump and I ended up having to use a knife and fork to eat them. I would suggest instead of using just shredded cheese, maybe they could make a cheese sauce using the shredded cheese and pour it over the fries so it more of a gooey, liquid cheese sauce resembling a queso dip.

My friends ordered the Greek to Me burger and the Swimmin’ up Stream burger. I was able to sample the Greek to Me burger, and it was great! It was the typical Greek flavors using a chicken patty topped with feta cheese, a lemon-caper vinaigrette, arugula, tomato, and fresh tzatziki sauce. The burger was moist and flavorful, and the tzatziki sauce could have been put in a funnel and poured directly into my mouth. I did not sample the Swimmin’ up Stream burger which is a wild Alaskan salmon patty topped with ancho chile, black bean charred corn medley, tequila lime aioli, and cilantro, but my friend loved it.

PRICE: The price is pretty comparable to other burger joints. For my burger, fries, and milkshake my total came to $18 (I added extra ingredients such as an egg on my burger and cheese on my fries which made my total a bit more than usual). This might be a bit much to some people for a burger and fries, but you are paying for higher quality ingredients such as the beef ground in house daily, the bright and flavorful guacamole, and scratch-made buns baked fresh every hour. To me, it was well worth the money. As we were walking out, each of us were handed a voucher for a free order of fries/milkshake on our next visit, which doesn’t hurt! FINAL GRADE: Based on all of the following criteria discussed above I give Grub Burger Bar an A-. The atmosphere was my favorite so far of my blog series, the service was impeccable, and overall the food was fresh, flavorful, and super filling! The only reason why I did not give Grub Burger Bar a solid A was because of the fries. A little tweaking with the cheese topping, would have really changed things. I highly recommend you try either of the Grub Burger Bar locations in Atlanta for an awesome burger experience!

As you can see we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
